Flic En Flac at a glance

Flic-en-Flac, situated in the Black River District, is a firm local favourite with its family-friendly activities on offer. Beach picnics are popular, and the Casela Nature & Leisure Park is a treat for all ages with it's African and Mauritian wildlife. Explore the park, take safari tours, ride quad bikes and segways, zipline, play a round of mini-golf, toboggan, and end the day with a movie at the cinema. The park has everything for a fun day out with the kids.

The unspoiled coastline, once a hot seventies surf spot, has dolphins that frolic in the Flic-en-Flac bay each day and this area is a firm family favourite for scuba diving, snorkelling and surfing.

Climate

Mauritius has warm island weather all year round, and the Black River District is no exception. Average temperatures in the cooler months from July to September sit around 18°C to 27°C. During the hottest months from December to the end of February, the temperatures can reach well into the 30s but the days are usually a pleasant 24°C.

Development in the Area

Flic-en-Flac is 46km West of the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, and the drive will take you just under an hour, along the M2. Note that this area of the island is the least populated district and apart from Flic-en-Flac it's not nearly as developed as the more touristy North. However, there are new developments such as shopping malls, hotels and apartments and villas currently being built and planned for the near future.

Not as sleepy as you might think, this bustling coastal village still boasts several restaurants, street food vendors, night clubs and bars for those looking for a night out. Or get away from the buzzing town and visit the tranquil white sandy beaches in the area.

There is a shopping centre in Flic-en-Flac called Cascavelle Shopping Mall where you can find a bank, a bottle store and a supermarket. The mall also has stores selling apparel, jewellery, crafts, souvenirs, and of course a food court for a bite to eat once you're all done shopping. Move further south to Black River, and you'll find Ruisseau Créole Shopping Mall and other smaller commercial complexes like Barachois Shopping Centre closer to Tamarin.

Schools in the District

Just 12km south of Flic-en-Flac lies Telfair International Primary School. This small and welcoming school allows for individual attention to students and is one of the most popular and beloved schools in the district. There is also the Paul et Virginie School, a French-medium primary school around 14km from Flic-en-Flac. For older students, Westcoast International Secondary School is a mere 6km from Flic-en-Flac, in Cascavelle and the primary school is right next to it. The primary and secondary schools are both English-medium private schools.
