La Preneuse is just 4km south of Tamarin and 2km north of Grande Rivière Noire. This area is home to all the top schools in the Black River District. Right in the district's centre lies Telfair International Primary School a mere 3.5km from La Preneuse on Avenue des Jacarandas. There is also the Paul et Virginie School, a French-medium primary school about 5.5km away named after the famous 16th century novel by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre.
