Situated in a small bay, you'll need to travel towards Tamarin (9km) and Flic-en-Flac (21km) in the North to find more developed shopping centres like Cascavelle, Ruisseau Créole, and Barachois Shopping Centres for all your speciality retail needs.

Right in this district's centre lies Telfair International Primary School a mere 8km from Petite Rivière Noire bay. There is also the Paul et Virginie School, a French-medium primary school about 10km away named after the famous 16th century novel by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre.
For older students, Westcoast International Secondary School is 18km north of Petite Rivière Noire, in Cascavelle and the primary school is right next to it. The primary and secondary schools are both English-medium private schools.
