Category All about Mauritius

Mauritius is known to be an important international business hub in the Indian Ocean. With its stable political environment and economy, strong banking system and its well-regulated framework, the island is home to many professional opportunities for foreigners wishing to set up their company. If you wish to relocate to Mauritius and start your own company, the Mauritian government has worked on a user-friendly legal framework for the implementation process of your company.

Define your company

To start off, you can either choose to proceed online on the Mauritius Network Services or go to the Registrar of Companies (ROC) with all the documents required, and verify if your proposed company name is available.

You will then be asked to fill an application form with the following information:

  • Your company's proposed name.
  • Full name / former name as well as the residential and service address of all directors and secretaries of the company.
  • Details of all business occupations and directorships whether it being in a public company or a public company's subsidiary which is held by each director.
  • Full name, residential and service address of all shareholders, the number of shares and the amount that should be paid.
  • Indicate if the company is limited or unlimited, private or public.
  • The company's registered office address.
  • If it is a one-person company, residential and service address of the proposed director that should act as a secretary must be stated in the event of death of the unique director.
  • The company's registered office address, business activities and location, as stipulated in the Business Registration Act and the full name of the applicant.

You will then receive a Business Registration Card, including your company's number and a Certificate of Incorporation. Concerned authorities will then be informed of your company's implementation for you to be registered.

Seal your registration

In order to proceed with your company's seal, you must go to the closest Municipal Council with the Certificate of Incorporation and a letter requesting the seal. You will be required to pay for your license fees and bring the following additional documents for the first installment:

  • Proof of director's address and the applicant identity card
  • Signed consent of every director, secretary or shareholder concerned
  • Two copied of Trade License
  • The site plan with regards to the Building and Land Use Permit
  • The identity card of the premise's owner
  • Copy of Residence Permit (if the sole director is a foreigner)
  • Photocopy of passports for non-residents.

With all these procedures and documents in hand, you shall be up and ready to start your business in Mauritius!
